Tehseen Noorani, PhD is a critical social scientist focused on the phenomenological and therapeutic aspects of psychedelic experiences. His research, grounded in first-person inquiry and scientific study, examines how these experiences are understood amidst the rapid medicalization of psychedelics. Trained in disciplines including anthropology, psychology, and science and technology studies, Tehseen collaborates with diverse stakeholders, including Indigenous groups, consumer and survivor organizations, and healthcare professionals, to address cross-disciplinary and ethical challenges in psychedelic-assisted therapy. Currently, he co-leads a grassroots engagement project on psychedelic therapy in New Zealand entitled, Community Strategising about Psychedelic Therapy in Aotearoa. Tehseen also convenes Reimagining Psychedelic Trials, an international, interdisciplinary working group comprised of scientists, social scientists and humanities researchers, and is Editor-in-Chief of the new Elsevier journal, Psychedelics. Consistent across these endeavours, he aims to integrate participation, community, and accountability into the future provision of psychedelic-assisted therapy.
